14 April 2025
It is with profound sorrow that the Gauteng Nyahbinghi Council announces the destruction of the Grasmere Tabernacle, a sacred place of worship and spiritual gathering, which was set ablaze in the early hours of 3 April 2025—Empress Menen Day—by unknown individuals. Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause and bring those responsible to justice. The Grasmere Tabernacle has long stood as a pillar of the Rastafari community in Gauteng—a sanctuary for prayer, reasoning, and unity. Its loss has deeply wounded our hearts, but it has not shaken our spirit. In the true essence of unity and resilience, the Gauteng Nyahbinghi Council is calling upon all brethren, sistren, supporters, and well-wishers across the province and the nation to join us in a 7-Day Fundraising Campaign aimed at rebuilding this holy ground.
