Stepping Razor is a passionate reggae artist originating from Soweto’s Diepkloof and now rooted in Orange Farm. With deep community ties, he uses his music as a vessel for empowerment, social consciousness, and cultural expression. His distinctive sound blends Caribbean reggae rhythms with local vernacular patterns, creating a conscious vibe that champions freedom, peace, and unity.
Inspired by legendary reggae icons, his lyrics explore themes of self-awareness, love, justice, and global solidarity. His music speaks to redemption, empowerment, and upliftment of the ghetto, delivering messages of hope, happiness, and prosperity for all.
His musical journey started in primary school choirs, where he developed a passion for sound and rhythm. Drawn to reggae and indigenous African music, especially marimba and drums. He joined the Batangas Marimba Band in 2007 and performed with the Upfront Crew until 2018. These experiences have shaped his conscious, authentic style.
Projects
Stepping Razor is currently working on his debut album, **"Out of Nothing,"** a 12-track collection scheduled for release before the end of October 2025. The album reflects his spiritual and social journey, capturing the struggles and triumphs of township life through uplifting reggae melodies. It will be available on all streaming platforms, as well as on CDs and vinyl records.
Vision & Goals
His ambition is to establish a professional studio and cultural hub dedicated to empowering youth through music, poetry, dance, crafts, and theatre within local communities. He plans to organize events and workshops that promote positive cultural expression, fostering social cohesion and artistic growth.
Dream Collaborations
Stepping Razor hopes to collaborate with artists such as Skeleton Blazer, Nkule Dube, Black Dillinger, Sizzla, and Anthony B, bridging local talent with international reggae icons to inspire positive change.
