South African voiceover artist and narrator Kuhle Nkosi is gaining international recognition following a remarkable run of accolades for Apex Alley, the documentary chronicling the extraordinary migration routes of sharks along Africa’s east coast.
The film has emerged as one of the year’s standout wildlife and conservation documentaries, receiving major recognition at two international film festivals the International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA) and the Finisterra Brazil Film Art & Tourism Festival.
Among the film’s most significant accolades is the Best Narrator award presented to Kuhle Nkosi at the Finisterra Brazil Film Art & Tourism Festival, placing his work at the centre of an internationally recognised production.
The recognition is particularly significant for Nkosi, whose voice carries audiences through the film’s extraordinary 2,000-kilometre journey across some of Africa’s most remarkable marine environments.

The film was also named Best Wildlife and Environment at the International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA).

For Nkosi, however, the Best Narrator award represents a particularly important milestone.
His voice guides viewers through a journey that begins with the tagging of bull sharks in Mozambique and extends into the deep pelagic waters off Cape Point, connecting scientific discovery, conservation and human storytelling.

Apex Alley follows scientists, marine biologists, oceanographers and conservationists as they investigate the extraordinary migratory behaviour of sharks across Mozambique, South Africa and Mauritius.
Among those featured are marine biologist Dr. Ryan Daly, traditional Zulu healer and activist Thandeka Hlongwa, oceanographer Danel Wentzel and veteran conservationist Hugues Vitry.
The documentary captures the tagging and tracking of bull sharks, tiger sharks, hammerheads and other apex predators, while exploring the increasingly urgent threats facing the ocean’s ecosystems, including overfishing, shark finning and climate change.
The film documents discoveries that challenge our understanding of shark migration, including a bull shark recorded travelling approximately 6,500 kilometres from South Africa to Nigeria, as well as the transoceanic journey of a tagged tiger shark across the Indian Ocean.
At the heart of these stories is Nkosi’s narration providing the connective tissue between the science, the people and the extraordinary journey taking place beneath the surface.
